On July 8, Carroll County joined more than 600 communities nationwide in commemorating the 250th anniversary of the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence. It was an honor to provide remarks from the historic Carroll County Courthouse as our community reflected on the enduring ideals of liberty, self-government, and civic responsibility.
It was an honor to join the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Ratcliffe Applied Technology and Trades Center at Carroll Community College—an exciting investment in our workforce and local economy. This facility will provide students with hands-on training and the skills needed to build rewarding careers right here in Carroll County.
The Board of County Commissioners was pleased to receive the annual update from Scouting America and learn about its continued impact on developing leadership, character, and service in our community. As an Eagle Scout myself, I know firsthand the lasting value of Scouting, and I’m especially proud to congratulate Rebekah O’Hara on achieving the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.
We welcomed families to the County Office Building for Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, giving young people the opportunity to explore careers, experience the workplace, and participate in hands-on learning. It was wonderful to see so many young faces engaged with the important work being done across Carroll County government.

Attending the groundbreaking for the new Carroll County State’s Attorney’s Office Building, a 43,000-square-foot, three-story facility. The new building is expected to be completed in spring 2027 and will provide a modern, dedicated space to serve Carroll County.

At Exploration Commons at 50 East, National Treasure Hunt podcast hosts and authors Aubrey Paris and Emily Black presented an engaging lecture exploring the connections between Carroll County and the beloved National Treasure films. Attendees also had the opportunity to view authentic props from the films.
It was an honor to attend the Boys & Girls Clubs Legislative Breakfast at the Governor Calvert House and hear from leaders and young people shaping Maryland’s future. A highlight of the morning was hearing from Chandice Hood, Maryland Youth of the Year, whose inspiring story demonstrated the life-changing impact of Boys & Girls Clubs.

Standing in the middle of 180 acres of preserved farmland is a powerful reminder of why protecting our agricultural heritage matters. Carroll County’s Farmland Preservation Program ranks among the top five most successful programs in the nation and is the #1 program in Maryland. Since 1980, approximately 82,000 acres of farmland have been preserved, bringing us closer to our long-standing goal of protecting 100,000 acres for future generations.
